Dear Ms Lomax-Smith,

I find it hard to understand why dissection of animals in schools is still allowed to go on in this day and age.

As I understand it, the law says animals may only be used when they are essential and there are no alternatives. These criteria don't apply to dissection.

There are studies which show that students learn just as much by using alternatives to dissection. Since this is the case, dissection can't be essential.

There are more and more high quality alternatives available. The NORINA database, available on-line, lists 3700 alternatives to animals in teaching, and this number is constantly increasing. There is no shortage of alternatives.

Given these facts, could you please tell me why dissection of animals is still allowed in schools?

Yours sincerely
