We run a variety of events which focus on current and longstanding animal cruelty issues such as duck and quail shooting.
We join with nationwide or worldwide public awareness days – for example, International Kangaroo Day.
We have trips for members to different sites of interest – for example, to the Entwood Wombat Sanctuary, and to Lake George during duck shooting season. An under-cover trip to a dairy barn at Meningie proved very informative.
We run fundraisers – Quiz nights, new release films at the Capri Theatre – and we set up stalls at the Adelaide Vegan Festival and at smaller community markets.
We also have various social functions for members at Vegan restaurants – for example, our Nup to the CuP lunch last November.
Outreach is a very important part of Animal Liberation SA activities.
For example, an important exposure to the public has been through our billboards. These are professionally designed to increase public awareness of animal cruelty.
We set up stalls at important events such as the Adelaide Vegan Festival, and smaller community events, to talk to the public about animal welfare issues which are relevant to their lives.
We provide advice, information, fliers and we have an excellent selection of books, T shirts, stickers and other merchandise for sale.
We have regular educational protests in the Rundle Mall, displaying a wide variety of posters and distributing educational leaflets.. We cover most current animal cruelty exposures.
Our aim is for public awareness in all areas hidden from the public eye. For example, at the start of the last two Duck and Quail hunting seasons, we have set up protests which have ‘taken over’ the foyer of the SA Department of Environment and Water, with singers, guitarists and activists.
Animal Liberation SA organised a protest in Rundle Mall on National Animal Rights Day, in conjunction with the Animal Justice Party SA, to give a voice to all animals and raise awareness of welfare issues and animal rights. More than 50 countries around the world observe this day annually on the first Sunday in June.
On 16th March, the first day of the SA duck hunting season, Animal Liberation SA joined forces with the Animal Justice Party and Birds SA to lead a protest at Parliament House – a protest which was well-attended by bird lovers and enthusiastically endorsed by passers-by.
We started on the steps of Parliament House with three highly-regarded speakers – Tammy Franks (Greens MLC), Frankie Bray (AJP Candidate for Dunstan) and Steven Langley (President of Birds SA) – who talked about the horrors of duck shooting. They also discussed the bias and unreasonable conclusions of the recent SA government Inquiry into Recreational Duck Hunting, and the responsibility of our government to end this cruel and archaic ‘sport’.
After the speakers had made their points, we concluded the static protest with a minute’s silence for all the ducks and quail that have lost their lives to hunting. We then walked as a group from Parliament House up King William Street to Victoria Square, chanting and flourishing banners all the way.
Animal Liberation SA organised a truck with digital posters to travel around Adelaide throughout the day, with special focus on the Dunstan Electorate and the Parliament House protest. The truck followed the group up King William Street to reinforce our message about the cruelty of duck hunting and the need for government action on this issue.

On 13 April 24, Animal Liberation members stood outside Adidas on Rundle Mall to protest the continued use of kangaroo skin to make sports boots.
Animal exploitation is never more clearly in sight than at the Royal Adelaide Show.
A few ALSA members stood strong at the 2023 Royal Adelaide Show to raise awareness of the pain and suffering involved in animal agriculture.
One of our wonderful members went around the animal pens and exhibits talking to the owners and staff about the welfare issues inherent in farming animals and the conditions which the animals are kept in.
Several of our members, along with a large number of other activists, attended the Justice for Greyhounds protest on 5th August at Parliament House.
Padma Ciel, a long-time supporter of Animal Liberation SA, interviewed the spokesperson for the movement on her radio station, Lofty Community Radio (you can tune in on 88.9 at 10am every Friday – we highly recommend it!).
Kangaroos are the world’s largest slaughtered native, mamalian wildlife. In conjunction with events held in Sydney and Melbourne, we held an event outside the Adidas store in Rundle Mall on Saturday 29th of July.
It was attended by 9 members and supporters.
Some good news- – Members of U.S.A congress introduced the Kangaroo Protection Act to end sales of kangaroo skins for commercial products in the USA!
On Sat 22 July, Animal Liberation SA member braved the cold to hold an outreach event in Rundle Mall to edutcate people about what the fur and down industries do to animals.
As a follow-up to the Farm Transparency Project video on the ABC 7.30 report, and our ALSA letter to Minister Scriven, ALSA held an outreach event in Rundle Mall on 19 May 23, and then another on 17 June 23.
We stood between Coles and Woolworths, and spoke to many people about pig slaughter and the problems with abattoirs.
This year, the Malinauskas government has held a review on duck and quail hunting. The review has recommended that duck hunting remain a legal activity in South Australia, regardless of the damage it inflicts on our native birds and our rural communities!
Animal Liberation SA has held several outreach events in Rundle Mall to help people to understand the horrors that are inflicted on our native birds during recreational hunting seasons. We have also written frequently to MPs about this issue.
Animal Liberation SA co-hosted an event with Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses on Adelaide Cup Day at Morphettville on Monday, March 13th.
We had 25 animal activists attend and protest, and managed to get some TV time.
We have paid for three billboards to be exhibited in prominent places in Adelaide.
You might have seen them on Port Rd, or on Goodwood Rd, or on the corner of Rundle Mall, or in other places in Adelaide.
The aim for our billboards was to spread the word about the cruelty and environmental damage inherent to factory farming.
